Always the same questions are raised pebble mosaic beginner, here are answers to some of them.
1. How do I prepare the site?
A solid foundation can be achieved. Depending on the density of the place and type of transport they use, you can work too busy or too little. Top soil should be removed and evacuated located on level land strong. Then, depending on whether the mosaic is subjected toher foot traffic only, light trucks or heavy vehicles (a fire truck, perhaps?), the base under the mosaic should be designed to withstand the type of load. Basis for both in situ and precast mosaics are the same.
The edges of the mosaic are particularly vulnerable to damage and must be well protected. A thick edge of the stones, settings, or stone slabs should be placed on a concrete base.
Remember that the specific major is required for use in vehicles. For the work in situ,the case can be applied to the last stage of connecting the six stones, so it should be set carefully covered so that rain water released from the surface of the mosaic on the right. If battens are used to create the final level and in the fall, they shall be put in place with pegs or mortar and checked with a spirit level.
2. HOW MANY DO I NEED NO STONE
To calculate the gravel needed is the easiest way to do a study and measured in sandthe number of stones used. Such attempts are always useful, not only for the number of stones to calculate, but if you really check the model you have in mind. You may also find that you need enough of the special stones, in which case you can re-design before you start.
3. How can I make the best use of pebbles AVAILABLE
There will always be much variation in size and shape of pebbles. Acquisition that were evaluated,sieve with a mesh size specification, a typical example of the work in situ would be 2-3 (5-7.5cm). If you're lucky, you can pick your own, you can aim for consistency, but you will need a lot of resistance!
Take time to carefully sort the stones. Eliminate all forms really bad: they're more trouble than they're worth. Keep aside the "short" ones that you need for the end of lines. In most cases, you order "fatness" in order toUniform width for each line. And as you start another row, use different lengths of gravel in off-set the gaps created in the previous row between the stones. The maintenance of a type of masonry 'Bond', also looks good and gives the greatest strength for your work.
4. The way to be a pebble?
Each stone has a "better" board. "Long" pebbles, this means that the longer and flatter. A border with a prominent display area when the mosaic lesover, and it feels so good.
As you go along, check out each pebble and decide which is the "best" edge to show up, considering the following advice;
Make sure its deep enough. A good rule is that any large stones should be 5 cm or more in depth.
large stones can be placed along both cases, as in the photo above left, deep enough on both sides.
Try putting the pebbles so that they touchThe sides of the previous line and touch each other end to end. The more pebbles are together the stronger the mosaic is packed.
An instrument like a small sharp knife to be very useful for the excavation and the mix of relaxation. Dig, you place the gravel and the mixture firmly around its base.
5. WHY 'STONE fall?
If the stones are crushed down, there is a tendency for the deeper gravel to catch up because of the resistance ofconfirmed mixture between them.
Remember to dig the routine "place" business.
Place the stones so that they just want to finish the level.
Tamp down on each line to ensure that all the tiles are going down to flip instead of vertically. Any tendency to bend must be corrected immediately.
6. What about gaps?
If the section is complete, it is recommended that all of the pebbles filling the gaps and makesTop of the Base Mix (20-25mm) ¾ the tops of the pebbles. Sprinkle careful you do not have coarse particles visible through the upper end surface of the mixture.
7. How much water to use?
Very! Once you start mixing with the water spray, cement starts the chemical reaction that ultimately curing, so be sure that the water has penetrated the full depth of soil mix. This first spray also helpsclean wash concrete dust from the gravel and any loose parts. Water every day at work as you go along and cover with polyethylene film. The next day, walk through and how the level of adjacent sections when needed.
8. TOP MIX HOW MUCH should I use?
Before you begin to mix with, remove the polythene and ensure that the stones are completely dry. Then there is a choice to be made;
Less use, mix, the better the pebblesshows his form;
Use multiple top-Mix and the surface is less prone to trap dirt and leaves, and stays cleaner and easier to sweep.
9. WHAT 'THE LAST TOP spraying the mix?
No watering now! This process requires attention and only a small amount of water. A pressure sprayer (like a pump-up garden sprayer Bug) creates a thin stream of mist suitable. Make sure that the syringe is pumped at high pressure. Take a test on the breakmosaic floor and then spray evenly until the surface by flooding. Then exit the surface is smooth legato, and you're done.
